Episode 3 – Boot Camp Braai

Episode 3 – Boot Camp Braai

The final 18 Masterchef SA contestants are chosen.

The truly traditional South African braai was the focus on the final round of boot camp. It took place at Roots restaurant in the Cradle of Humankind. The contestants had 45 mins to “braai” a dish good enough to go on the Roots menu.

Does dessert come to mind when you think braai? Not to me so why would some of the contestants make a dessert when the focus is a braai? Yes one can grill fruits etc but still, I don’t think a dessert is synonymous with a braai. Poor old Sarel used milk chocolate to make a sauce. Andrew Atkinson didn’t hold back whilst pointing out this mistake to Sarel.

Before I started typing this post I received an email from a reader asking who dressed the Judges. Does anyone know and what are your opinions about their style?

These are the 18 contestants through to next week.

I think master chef South Africa is a joke.

Perhaps you would like to give constructive criticism rather than just your “humble” opinion Unis?

    • GuyverXT9 says:

Compared to the US and Australian versions it is a joke. Like Survivor South Africa. First issue is with the judges, who play to the camera by over-acting, instead of just doing their thing like a real person would. Real shame though.

  2. Carol says:

Gave it 4 & a half episodes – can”t stand anymore !!! TERRIBLE ! PLEASE do NOT try ANYTHING done by Aussies – you can only lose ! SA Masterchef is SO boring !!!!!!!! Uggggghh !!! NO MORE !!!

  3. Leigh says:

I absolutely love the new MasterchefSA show! It’s the start of something new……The challenges are good and creative based on what I’ve seen on the UK and Australian shows. SA producers can be proud!

  4. Margaret says:

I’m probably Masterchef Australia’s biggest fan – have watched seasons 1, 2 and 3 over and over again. SA Masterchef is a huge disappointment! Wooden judges who persist in gazing into the contestants faces while eating the food. Makes them look extremely odd and creepy. And just who writes the script? Its dreadful! Really folks, watch Masterchef Australia to see just how it should be done

      I agree,it is a joke. It does not come near Masterchef Australia. On a scale 1-10 I,ll give it a 1. McA a 10.

Who the hell are these Judges anyway, never heard of them.

  5. Kosie says:

Ifyou cannot stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

  6. Phumla says:

I love and enjoy watching Masterchef SA. Let us stop comparing ourselves to other countries and give constructive criticism or compliments.
